As homes incorporate more and more Internet of Things (IoT) devices (smart devices), it may be necessary to incorporate software that can monitor and protect your network. As these devices become more and more complex and need passwords to protect them and they reside on the network, it becomes more and more enticing for hackers to try and get into the network and steal passwords from these devices, as well as computers and laptops. Accessing these devices would allow criminals to use information gained to hack other online accounts like banks etc. Most homes don't have very complex networks with many different smart devices which give potential points of access to the home's network. The cybersecurity software needed can be a third party or inside of the modem, router and switches. The software serves as a type of "Security Gard" for the network and all attached devices. Again, this is more of a concern for expensive hi-end systems, someone with a couple of TVs, a few Alexas and AV gear is fine by making the proper settings in the router.
